My relationship with McDonald’s took another surprising turn this weekend when I encountered the stunning work of photographer @Gary He, introduced to me courtesy of CNN’s Lilit Marcus.
As a child, McDonald’s was a treat—a joyful indulgence marked by the simple delight of a strawberry milkshake. As an adult, however, my fascination faded. It became just another fast-food chain, more convenience than magic.
But this year, I’ve been focusing on perspective—on finding beauty in the familiar seen through a different lens. Gary He’s photography embodies that perfectly. His love affair with McDonald’s comes to life in the exquisite care he takes to capture its vibrant colors, clean lines, and striking shapes. Through his lens, the iconic golden arches and the food beneath them transform into a visual celebration of culture and perspective, offering a fresh way to view something we often take for granted.
This weekend, my eyes danced as I studied his photos—a reminder that even the most ordinary things can become extraordinary when viewed through the right lens.
I hope you’ll take a moment to explore and enjoy this unique perspective too.
